(Kingston) The United States and Jamaica drew 1-1 on Tuesday night in a Concacaf qualifying tournament match for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Tim Weah scored the United States goal (4-1-3) in the 11e minute of play. Michail Antonio, thanks to a spectacular shot from a distance of about 30 meters at the 22e minute, allowed Jamaica (1-3-4) to tie the score.
After their 2-0 victory over Mexico on Friday night in Cincinnati, the American team hoped to place themselves in a more comfortable position in the general standings.
Nevertheless, a point abroad leaves the United States in a good position to claim one of the three positions automatically giving access to the World Cup of 2022, as we enter the second half of the tournament.
The United States started the night in first place with 14 points, the same number as Mexico. A positive plus-7 gap in goals scored and goals conceded, compared to Mexico’s plus-5 gap, temporarily put the United States in first place.
In other matches on the bill, Costa Rica hosts Honduras and El Salvador visits Panama.
