The parliamentary leader of QS, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, made the announcement Tuesday morning in an interview with Tout un matin, on Radio-Canada. He said he wanted to “suspend payments to the Generations Fund”. In 2018, the QS wanted to use these sums to finance the fight against climate change.
The day before, he had made no secret of his aversion to the principle of the Generations Fund, created in 2006 and which serves to offset the weight of the debt.
“To continue to deprive yourself of several billion dollars a year, because that’s the background of generations, on the pretext that the debt would be absolutely alarming, I think it’s an old reflex that belongs to another era in politics Quebec, where we put these accounting issues before the well-being of people, “said Mr. Nadeau-Dubois in a press briefing on Monday.
“We have always been critical at Québec solidaire of depriving ourselves of so much revenue when there are so many things to do,” he said.
Each year, the Quebec State sends an amount to the Generations Fund, which is fed in particular by “hydraulic royalties from Hydro-Québec” as well as “the indexation of the price of heritage electricity” and to “income mining”, for example, specifies the Ministry of Finance.
Later in the day, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois plans to make an announcement “concerning the cost of living” at the Écomusée du fier monde in Montreal, then he will campaign in Quebec City at the end of the day, in the riding of Jean-Talon. .
