Québec solidaire (QS) warns the Legault government against the temptation to imitate the Conservative Party of Éric Duhaime by opening the door even more to the private sector in health care.
QS MP Ruba Ghazal deplored on Monday the intention recently expressed by the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, about his plan to “refound” the Quebec network.
“We had few details, but there, the cat has just come out of the bag, she said at a press conference. Mr. Dubé offers us, oh surprise, even more privacy in our health system. The CAQ and the Conservative Party are the same thing: both want to further privatize our health system network and strengthen the two-speed health system. »
Mr. Dubé intends to present his reform project in the coming weeks, which follows his observations during the pandemic on the functioning of the network, which already entrusts certain surgeries to private clinics. Greater private space, at no cost to patients, will be among the proposed elements, reported The Journal of Quebec.
By presenting her demands in anticipation of the next budget on Monday, Ms. Ghazal invited the government to make “major” investments in the public health network instead.
“What the government is telling us is to strip the public system to dress the private system,” she said. It is also part of Quebec values, the public health system. »
The program of Mr. Duhaime’s Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ) is the one that, so far, opens the door the most to the private health sector. Citizens could possibly choose to take out private health insurance.
Separately, QS on Monday proposed doubling solidarity tax credit benefits for six months, as part of its demands for the upcoming March 22 budget, to be presented by Finance Minister Eric Girard.
More details will follow.
