(Montreal) The former member for the riding of Rouyn-Noranda–Témiscamingue, Émilise Lessard-Therrien, confirms that she will be a candidate to become the next co-spokesperson for Québec solidaire (QS).
The other co-spokesperson for the party is the deputy for Gouin, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois.
The person who will succeed Manon Massé will be elected at the party’s national congress which will take place next November. Mme Massé announced a few weeks ago that she would step down from these functions, but that she would keep her post as deputy.
In a written statement, Mr.me Lessard-Therrien specifies that she wants to bring the Québec solidaire project to the regions of Québec, since most of the party’s roots are established in urban centres. QS has 12 MPs who represent ridings located in Montreal, Quebec and Sherbrooke.
Émilise Lessard-Therrien, who has a degree in secondary education from the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM), is a native of Duhamel-Ouest, a small town located north of Ville-Marie, in Témiscamingue. She was elected Member of Parliament for Québec solidaire in Rouyn-Noranda–Témiscamingue in 2018, but was defeated in the general election last October.
The mother of two young children intends to promote the sovereignty of Quebec and regionalization in partnership with the First Nations.
A few days ago, the member for Mercier, Ruba Ghazal, announced that she was going to be a candidate for the succession of Manon Massé. His colleague Christine Labrie, MP for Sherbrooke, said she was thinking.
