(Shawinigan) Jérémy Lapointe broke the deadlock with less than eight minutes left in the game and the Drummondville Voltigeurs defeated the Shawinigan Cataractes 4-2 on Tuesday night.
Installed in enemy territory, the Voltigeurs took a 3-2 lead when Marc-Olivier Beaudry’s shot hit Lapointe in front of the net before beating Rémi Delafontaine.
Alexis Morin, Simon Hughes and Mikael Diotte, in an empty net, also scored for the Voltigeurs, who never pulled back during this confrontation.
Jacob Goobie saved 29 of 31 pucks for the Drummondville squad, which has won two of its three games since Éric Bélanger was named head coach.
Félix Lacerte and Jérémy D’Astous replied for the Cataractes, who saw their winning streak come to an end at three.
Delafontaine finished the game with 18 saves.
With the two teams tied 1-1 early in the third period, Hughes lodged the puck in the top corner when he was at the mouth of the net.
D’Astous tied the game midway through the engagement when he pounced on a loose puck in front of the net. Lapointe, however, scored the winning goal just over two minutes later.
