QMJHL | The Drakkar crowned champion of the season

(Boucherville) The Baie-Comeau Drakkar was crowned regular season champion in the Maritimes Quebec Junior Hockey League following a 4-1 victory recorded Wednesday evening against the Quebec Remparts, which allowed it to to get their hands on the Jean-Rougeau trophy.

The Drakkar now has a record of 50-11-2-1, for 103 points. Even if they win their last five games of the campaign, the Voltigeurs de Drummondville (43-14-5-1), second in the general ranking, could not do better than 102 points.

The Baie-Comeau team thus won the Jean-Rougeau trophy for the third time in its history, after those of 2003 and 2014.

If it wins its last four matches, the Drakkar could finish the regular calendar with 111 points, at 10e rank in QMJHL history – tied with the Sherbrooke Castors, in 1975-1976. The Drakkar’s team record is 108 points and dates from 2002-2003. The squad of head coach Jean-François Grégoire will play its last four games against the Remparts, the Sherbrooke Phoenix (twice) and the Voltigeurs.
