Qatar signs long-term supply agreements with TotalEnergies

Qatar and the French company TotalEnergies have signed two liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreements for a period of 27 years, QatarEnergy announced on Wednesday October 27. These contracts must make it possible to “supply up to 3.5 million tonnes per year of LNG from Qatar to France”affirmed the gas giant of the emirate, specifying that deliveries will begin in 2026. The gas will come from the North Field East (NFE) and North field South (NFS) projects, in which TotalEnergies holds shares of 6.25% respectively. % and 9.375%.

These two agreements “demonstrate our continued commitment to European markets in general and the French market in particular, thus contributing to France’s energy security”, said Qatari Minister of Energy and CEO of QatarEnergy, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi. The signing of the contracts took place in Doha, in the presence of the CEO of TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanné.

Qatar is one of the main LNG producers in the world along with the United States and Australia. Asian countries, including China, Japan and South Korea, are among its main customers. But Doha is increasingly being courted by European countries, looking for alternatives to Russian gas since the invasion of Ukraine. In November, Qatar announced an agreement to supply LNG to Germany for 15 years.
