Pylon hit by bus | 87,000 customers plunged into darkness on the South Shore

Tens of thousands of homes were without power Saturday evening after a bus crashed into an electricity pylon, Hydro-Québec said.

The accident occurred on the South Shore, at the corner of Chemin de Chambly and Highway 30. According to the Longueuil Agglomeration Police Service (SPAL), a collision initially occurred between two vehicles on one of the ramps leading to the highway.

Following this collision that occurred around 10 p.m., the bus apparently ended up in the pylon, which in turn collapsed. At least one person was injured and taken to hospital, according to initial information from SPAL. “Police officers and specialized teams are on the scene trying to control the event,” said officer Ghyslain Vallières, spokesperson for the police force.

Hydro-Québec assures that its “teams are mobilized to restore service as quickly as possible.” “It is not possible at this stage to estimate the restoration time,” the state-owned company specifies.

According to information made public on the Info-pannes website, power was expected to be restored around midnight this Sunday.
