Who designed the Théâtre de Quat’Sous? The kiosks at Castor Lake? The chic Marcus bar and restaurant? Although people are familiar with most of these places, they would often be unable to name the architect or designer. The campaign “Who is the architect? », Which is back for a second part, precisely aims to put faces on Quebec architecture.
As for the first part, the architectural platform Kollectif publishes on its site and its social networks photos of buildings with their creator photographed in front. Once again, eight professionals – six architects, an interior designer and a landscape architect – have agreed to pose in front of one of their achievements, immortalized by photographer Eric Branover, with the now famous sign bearing the name of the campaign. .
“We all know the faces of chefs, Danny St Pierre, Ricardo, so why don’t we try to put architects forward? », Notes Marc-André Carignan, one of the instigators of the project with Martin Houle and Grégory Taillon, with the support of the Ordre des architectes du Québec. The first season had unexpected repercussions in the world: a Cuban collective was interested in it, as well as the French and English Canadians, with a mention in the magazine. Canadian Architect. But it was above all the Order of Architects of Belgium that caused the surprise by launching a similar campaign, entirely inspired by the Quebec version!
Since this is primarily an awareness campaign, Internet users are invited to indicate the name of architects or designers in captions, when their work is published on social networks and in press articles. So far, seven of the eight photos have been unveiled… and we’re unveiling the last one, first: a project by the Chevalier Morales architectural firm.
