100,000 pairs of glasses sleep in the drawers of the French. To avoid wasting them, specialized brands are getting into the recycling of old glasses, and the practice is taking shape.

Glasses new in appearance, but all are second-hand. For a month, a shop in Nantes (Loire Atlantique) offers some completely reconditioned glasses to its customers. Among them are often branded glasses that normally cost several hundred euros. The approach is validated by customers. The models are only sold for 69 euros. According to estimates, 100,000 pairs of glasses are sleeping in the drawers.

Frames refurbished by employees undergoing professional reintegration

To promote them, the collection is sent to a start-up in Tourcoing (North)which receives hundreds of glasses in donations. They will be reconditioned by employees in professional reintegration. By hand, Bertrand Roux processes more than a hundred a day. You have to clean them one by one, then tighten the screws. Glasses that are too damaged are donated to associations. Only 25% will be resold.
