Puppy trafficking near Saint-Pol-de-Léon, in Finistère, was dismantled by the gendarmerie, reports France Bleu Breizh Izel, Saturday January 12. Four people “set up in micro-businesses selling puppies” are suspected of having sold or abused “more than 300 dogs”of which “a hundred were surrendered or died”for a turnover of “more than 300,000 euros over 4 years”said the gendarmerie on its Facebook account.

A judicial inquiry had been opened on the basis of a “succession of complaints aimed at denouncing ill-treatment” like “the use of non-sterilized insemination equipment”, or even the absence of official sales documents. The investigations concluded that no sum had been declared for taxes and that this micro-enterprise had received “unduly”more than 150,000 euros in aid from social organisations.

Two “identified” French bulldogs and twelve English and French bulldog puppies without identification numbers were seized during the search and handed over to the SPA. Nearly 1,500 euros in cash as well as luxury clothing and leather goods were also found at the scene. The four people implicated will soon have to explain themselves to the Brest court.
