Public transportation | ARTM prices up 3% from July 1

Fares for traveling by public transport in the greater metropolitan area will increase by 3% on average from 1er July, announced the Regional Metropolitan Transport Authority (ARTM) on Tuesday. This defends itself by emphasizing that it is an increase lower than inflation.

Thus, the ordinary monthly fare for using public transportation on the island of Montreal (zone A) will increase from $97 to $100. The monthly AB pass, which covers the urban areas of Laval and Longueuil, will increase from $155 to $160.

To travel between zones A, B and C (north and south crowns), you will have to pay $196 per month, an increase of $6. Finally, the All Modes ABCD monthly pass, which therefore includes the zone outside the ARTM territory, will cost $271 rather than $263.

The regular rate for a single trip to Montreal remains at $3.75. In contrast, regular single passes for zones AB, ABC and ABCD will cost $4.75, $7 and $9.50, respectively. An increase of $0.25 in each of these cases.

Monthly tickets at a reduced rate will also be increased. From 1er July, the fare will be $60 in zone A, $96 in zone AB, $118 in zone ABC and $163 in zone ABCD.

In a press release on Tuesday, the ARTM underlines that this 3% indexation remains lower than the inflation observed in the metropolitan region over the last 12 months (4.1%).

“In the context where a review of the financial model of public transport is necessary, this update makes it possible to limit the impact of the financial crisis on users,” affirms the Authority.

“Public transportation faces significant funding challenges and, despite everything, the annual fare update is responsible and aims to protect access to various services for the entire population,” adds Benoît Gendron, general director. of the ARTM.
