The Parti Québécois (PQ) proposes the creation of a “PasseClimat” which would allow its holders to have access to almost all types of public transport in the province for $365 per year.

The leader of the party, Paul St-Pierre-Plamondon, presented this first commitment of the PQ election campaign at St. Mark Park, in Longueuil, in the presence of his local candidate, Pierre Nantel, and the candidate in the riding of Taschereau , in Quebec, Jeanne Robin.
By purchasing this “PasseClimat”, Quebecers could have access to the services of all the transportation companies in the province, be it buses or trains, including those that offer intercity trips, with the exception of those of the federal crown corporation VIA Rail.
Thus, the party wishes to “eliminate complexity when taking public transport”, an element that often tips the balance in favor of the solo car, believes candidate Jeanne Robin.
The PQ undertakes to compensate transport companies for the revenue lost by the implementation of this new measure, a measure whose estimated cost would be approximately 150 to 180 million per year.
“This is a strong measure, up to the challenge of the fight against climate change,” insisted PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, who considers that it is also a good way to help families financially to fight galloping inflation.
“It goes hand in hand with other announcements by the PQ very soon regarding the massive increase in the supply of public transport in Quebec. The two go together […] “, he added.
The PQ says it was inspired by similar measures put in place by European countries, including Austria and Germany.
More details to come.
