Public transport | The mask will no longer be compulsory on June 18

(Quebec) The mask will fall in public transit – one of the last places where it is still mandatory – starting Saturday, June 18. Christian Dubé confirmed this “important stage” of the pandemic on Wednesday after obtaining the green light from Public Health.

It will no longer be compulsory to wear a mask in public transport from June 18, the Minister of Health confirmed in a press release on Wednesday. “The choice to wear a mask in public transport will remain at the discretion of each person,” indicates the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS), as has been the case in public places since May 14.

“Following a recommendation from Public Health, it is now possible to lift the wearing of masks on public transport. This is an important step, which confirms the significant improvement in the epidemiological situation over the past few weeks. The decision to wear the mask, both in public places and on public transport, will remain a personal choice,” said Mr. Dubé.

The mask or face covering nevertheless remains mandatory in hospitals, CHSLDs and clinics.

With the adoption of Bill 28 aimed at ending the health emergency last week, the government maintained four decrees in force, including the one on the obligation to wear a mask in public transport. The latter will therefore be modified.
