(Quebec) The opposition parties in the National Assembly say that the ball is in the government’s court after the common front union members of the public sector voted for a strike mandate in a proportion of 95%.
For Québec solidaire (QS), this is a historic strike vote. According to the solidarity parliamentary leader, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, public sector employees have sent a clear message to the government, because they do not feel respected.
The Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ) is asking the President of the Treasury Board, Sonia LeBel, to stop negotiating in the public arena and to settle the issue.
The Parti Québécois (PQ) affirms that the negotiations are not moving forward and that the government is not showing any sign of openness.
The common front represents 420,000 workers in health, social services and education, members of unions of the CSN, CSQ, APTS and FTQ.
The mandate that was granted ultimately provides for an indefinite strike, but it would be preceded by strike “sequences”, probably isolated or grouped strike days. The first day of strike could take place in November.
