Private school staff donate $80,000 to public network workers who are currently under pressure. Some have been without income for almost four weeks.
The Federation of Private Education Personnel (FPEP-CSQ) made the announcement in a press release published Tuesday.
“Our contribution is a message of solidarity and support for the fight that colleagues are waging to put a stop to the deterioration of working and practice conditions in the education sector,” declared Stéphane Lapointe, president of the FPEP. -CSQ. It represents 3,500 members, teachers, but also professional and support staff.
As with other unions that have recently made such donations, these are grocery gift cards that will be given to strikers in need. The 66,500 members of the Autonomous Education Federation have been deprived of income for 19 days now.
Tuesday, the Union of Public Health Professionals of Quebec (SPPSPQ-CSQ), a “small union” which brings together 400 members, also announced a donation of $35,000 which will be given to teachers Education Union des Deux Rives (SEDR-CSQ).
These donations are in addition to those of the United Steelworkers and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), unions affiliated with the FTQ, made two donations of $100,000 in the form of grocery gift cards to workers public sector on strike.
The Unifor union, also affiliated with the FTQ, handed out $72,000 to public sector strikers, while the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) – better known as the Union machinists – also offered a check for $65,000 to the strikers.
