It was a busy weekend in the world of sport and the matches did not disappoint. In Ligue 1, Paris confirmed that it would probably go it alone this season by succeeding in its first test of the year, in Lille. In the Vuelta, Ben O’Connor is still resisting, while the Paralympic athletes are delighting the French public. Finally, in motor sports, Charles Leclerc and Marc Marquez pleased the romantics with victories full of symbols.

Ligue 1: Paris alone in the world and alone in the lead

Victorious on the pitch of the Pierre-Mauroy stadium against Lille (3-1), Paris Saint-Germain is the only team in the championship to have won its first three matches of the season. If Bradley Barcola once again showed off his skills, the Lillois had nothing to be ashamed of, particularly becauseEdon Zhegrova, the scorer, showed great form. Alone at the top, the French champion is followed by Marseille, Nantes, Lens and Monaco, all four at seven points and undefeated.

Vuelta: Ben O’Connor puts up resistance

He was promised hell, but the scales have still not tipped one way or the other, while paradise still seems within reach for Ben O’Connor (Decathlon-AG2R). Still struggling against a new attack by Primoz Roglic (Visma-Lease a bike) in the last kilometers of the terrible Cuitu Negru, he still has a 1’03” lead, after the Slovenian was penalized 20 seconds for staying in the slipstream of his car, and Enric Mas (Movistar) showed himself to his advantage.

It was Pablo Castrillo (Kern Pharma), already winner of the 12th stage, who won after beating his breakaway companions, including the Frenchman Pavel Sivakov, now 10th overall, where David Gaudu is in 7th position.

Paralympic Games: France wins

An exceptional weekend for the French delegation at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. First with a dream Saturday and in particular the two-person podium for the Portal brothers or the title of Dorian Foulon. Above all, Sunday, September 1 will be remembered as a real blue-white-red festival since the French athletes won no less than nine medals, including three gold, thanks to Emeline Pierre in swimming, Marie Patouillet in track cycling and Tanguy de La Forest in shooting.

Formula 1: Ferrari thanks Leclerc and wins at home

He had already done it in 2019, and he did it again five years later. Victorious on the Scuderia’s lands, the Monegasque Charles Leclerc delighted the tifosi by winning nicely ahead of the McLarens of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, who completed the podium. Only 6th, Max Verstappen sees Norris return to 70 points, enough to promise a tight second half of the season.

MotoGP: Marc Marquez, almost three years later

Six-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez had not tasted the joys of success in the premier class for almost three years and October 2021. On the Aragon Grand Prix circuit, the Spanish superstar put an end to 1,043 days of drought on his home turf.

Winner ahead of Jorge Martin (Pramac Ducati) and Pedro Acosta (GasGas Tech 3), he refereed from afar the duel between his compatriot and the Italian Francesco Bagnaia, while the French did not exist.
