During the 5th day of the Champions League, at the end of November, the two French clubs involved in the competition will have very different objectives for the continuation of their European adventure.

After their respective disappointments – a defeat for Paris Saint-Germain in Milan (1-2), a victory for RC Lens on the pitch of PSV Eindhoven (0-1) – the two French clubs maintain their chances of qualifying for the next round. But between Parisians who can validate their ticket for the round of 16 of the competition during the 5th day, Tuesday November 28 against Newcastle, and Lensois who must maintain hope, Wednesday November 29 at Arsenal, victory, obligatory, will not have the same consequences.
PSG qualified if…
After its defeat at San Siro and four days of C1, Luis Enrique’s PSG has a poor balance sheet, with only six points on the clock. However, this is enough for Paris to occupy 2nd place in Group F behind Dortmund, with one point ahead of AC Milan and two over Newcastle. And if it conceded two defeats against the Magpies and the Rossoneri away from home, the capital club will have the opportunity to qualify at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday during the 5th day.
To do this, the Parisians will have to win against Newcastle and, at the same time, hope that AC Milan wins at home against Borussia Dortmund. If PSG wins and Milan does not win, Paris would have three points ahead of the Milanese before the last day but could not be taken over by the Italians due to a particularly favorable difference after the double confrontation between the two teams (3-0 first leg victory, 2-1 return defeat).
RC Lens still in the race if…
Beaten on the pitch at PSV Eindhoven on the last day of C1, RC Lens only has five points after four matches. Despite these checkered results, the northern club is in third place in Group B, tied with PSV Eindhoven, but one length behind Arsenal and three ahead of Sevilla FC. Racing can still believe in qualifying for the final phase of C1.
The Sang et Or face Arsenal, leader, at the Emirates Stadium. In the first leg, Lens achieved the feat of beating the Gunners at Félix-Bollaert (2-1). A new victory for Lensois would allow them to return to the fight for first place and secure, at least, a place in the Europa League if, at the same time, Sevilla does not win against PSV Eindhoven. A draw between these two teams would have a fitting effect, as Lens would be second with eight points, only one less than Arsenal. PSV would then have six points and Sevilla three.
But in the event of success for PSV and Lens, the two teams would once again find themselves tied on points. The two teams would decide at a distance during the last match (Lens at home against Seville and Eindhoven also at home against Arsenal), knowing that the advantage goes to PSV in the event of a tie, due to the result of the double confrontation between the two clubs.
