PSG goalkeeper Sergio Rico is no longer in intensive care

Victim of a serious horse accident at the end of May, the Spaniard was released from the intensive care unit of Seville hospital on Wednesday.

The Spanish goalkeeper of Paris Saint-Germain Sergio Rico, victim of a serious horse accident on May 28, was released on Wednesday July 5 from the intensive care unit of Seville hospital, said the latter.

“Sergio Rico is discharged from the intensive care unit of the Virgen del Rocio Hospital”, wrote the establishment in a press release. The caretaker will be able to join another floor of the hospital where he “will continue to be monitored and receive nursing care”added the Sevillian establishment which will inform of its condition when there is “meaningful news”.

Last week, the hospital had indicated that the player was conscious and could communicate, confirming what his wife had indicated to the media. The 29-year-old Spanish goalkeeper was taken to Virgen del Rocio Hospital on May 28 after suffering a traumatic brain injury following a riding accident during the El Rocio pilgrimage in Andalusia. He had been placed under sedation and life support.

Sergio Rico, who joined PSG in 2019 and played 24 games with the Parisian club, had received many tributes, including that of the public at the Parc des Princes, who had chanted his name throughout the last match of the season. PSG against Clermont in early June.
