After Kang-In Lee, Milan Skriniar, Manuel Ugarte and Marco Asensio, Paris Saint-Germain continues to shop. The French champion club announced on Sunday July 9 the signing of Lucas Hernandez. The French defender was transferred by Bayern Munich, with which he had played for four seasons. The 2018 world champion signed up until 2028.
For PSG, the arrival of the 27-year-old player, broken at the highest level with Bayern or Atlético de Madrid, corresponds to a need to strengthen his defense. The French still brings with him some concerns. If he established himself as part of the France team at the World Cup in Russia (33 caps), he suffered many injuries. The latest came in the first game of the last World Cup in Qatar, a ruptured cruciate ligament in the knee, which caused him to miss the entire second half of the season.
A defense to strengthen
Lucas Hernandez was going to be out of contract in Bavaria in June 2024. Paris Saint-Germain seized the opportunity at the right time. With the already announced departure of Sergio Ramos, or the serious injury of Presnel Kimpembe in March (ruptured Achilles tendon), the capital club had to strengthen its defense. The versatile profile of Hernandez, able to evolve as a left side as well as in the left axis, offers more tactical flexibility to the Parisian formation. Trained in Spain, Théo Hernandez’s brother will discover French football.
