How complicated this match was. Without Kylian Mbappé, who remained on the bench until the 73rd minute, and with a team reshuffled five days after qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the capital club failed to crack the Stadium de Reims (2-2), Sunday March 10 at the Parc des Princes, on the occasion of the 25th day of Ligue 1. As expected, LBut Enrique had therefore decided to rotate his players: Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé and Fabian Ruiz were on the bench at kick-off, as was Gianluigi Donnarumma, replaced by veteran Keylor Navas in the goals.
Often mishandled by the Rémois on the offensive, the Parisians too rarely dominated the debates and conceded a third draw in a row in the championship. From the seventh minute of play, Luis Enrique’s men conceded a first goal, following a gross error from Achraf Hakimi, which allowed Zimbabwean international Marshall Munetsi to calmly open the scoring.
Stung in their pride, the Parisians reversed the trend ten minutes later, with an own goal from Yunis Abdelhamid (17th), before the goal from Gonçalo Ramos (19th). But Paris regained control of the ball, with almost 70% possession, but the capital club once again lost control just before the break. The Parisian players paid dearly, with an equalizer from Oumar Diakité (45th), against the Rémois constantly looking for the fault.
No magic entry from Mbappé
With no apparent solution, Luis Enrique therefore decided to bring in Kylian Mbappé in the 73rd minute of play, as a last resort to try to win. Despite two good chances, including a shot that almost hit the top corner, the captain of the Blues did not bring his magic recipe. Although it did, however, cause some discrepancies, this was not enough to achieve a liberating goal. “Tomorrow [dimanche], circumstances mean that it is after a Champions League match. There is always the difficulty of motivating a player who has played in the Champions League. What’s important is that you have to concentrate as much as possible.” had however underlined Luis Enrique, who did once again without his captain, Marquinhos, forfeited due to persistent pain in the Achilles tendon, and without Marco Asensio.
The Parisians have once again failed to win in Ligue 1, even if they continue their unbeaten streak for 22 games. An unprecedented series since April-May 2022 when Paris Saint-Germain also had three draws against Lens (1-1), Strasbourg (3-3) and Troyes (2-2). Despite this mixed phase, PSG largely retains the lead in the championship, with 10 points ahead of its runner-up, Brest, beaten in Lens on Saturday. Reims, which has only won one of its last eight matches, may harbor some regrets, for not having been able to take advantage of the relaxation and defensive generosity of PSG.
