Around one million proxies had been registered as of Friday June 21, according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior. This boom portends strong participation in the legislative elections on June 30 and July 7.
Long lines in front of police stations, almost everywhere in France: the scenes have become frequent since the announcement of the early legislative elections on June 9. In around ten days, more than a million proxy requests were registered, or six times more than in the 2022 legislative elections. With the vote falling at the start of the summer, it is impossible for many French people to be present on voting days. “Caught off guard, and therefore for both dates, request for proxy”confides a woman.
The explosion in proxy requests suggests an increase in participation on D-day. It could reach 63%, according to an Ifop survey published on Sunday. Participation will be closely scrutinized in each constituency in the first round, because it could outline the contours of the second, with possible cases of triangular.
