Hugs confer many benefits, they are good for your health, as health journalist Damien Mascaret explains on Friday April 26.
If hugs are comforting, they also confer several benefits, and this is also proven. “Hugs, caresses or contacts modify pain thresholds. We are more resistant to pain. For example, researchers from University College London carried out an interesting experiment because they measured in the brain the pain wave caused in of 32 volunteers, men and women, by a series of small laser pulses which heated the back of the hand like when you touch a hot dish at 50°.”reports health journalist D’amine Mascret on Friday April 26.
“We see a reduction in pain”
When the experiment is carried out on volunteers without prior stimulation, “it’s a little painful”. “But by repeating the same experience while their partner delicately caressed their forearm with a brush, like the one I borrowed from our makeup artist, well, surprise, we see a reduction in the pain”he emphasizes.
