While all of Quebec awaits with optimism the fruits of the study of the bill aimed at improving the efficiency of its health system, the approximately 83,000 nurses in Quebec continue to work tirelessly with patients for their provide quality care, with confidence and humanity. Of course, nursing succession is eagerly awaited to increase staff numbers and improve access to front-line care, in close collaboration with all health professionals. The notion of clinical governance integrated into Bill 15 by Minister Christian Dubé reflects this necessary interprofessional collaboration.
Furthermore, Quebecers want nurses to be well equipped and to be able to fully deploy their expertise in order not only to offer quality and safe care, in an accessible manner and in sufficient numbers, but also to find themselves in a position to play a real pivotal role in health.
What about the future succession, concretely, in the short term? More than 3,100 candidates for the practice of the nursing profession (CEPI) will take the examination of the Order of Nurses of Quebec (OIIQ), in Montreal and Quebec, on September 18. Join us in wishing them success with confidence! We look forward to welcoming them into the profession; the results of the exams will undoubtedly be transmitted next November.
A dynamic mobilization to be structured
During the preparation period for the exam in recent months, the OIIQ has been close to the next generation. In fact, we have deployed useful and relevant measures to candidates to support them by offering free access to several tools as well as preparation activities.
But, let us emphasize, the OIIQ did not tackle this duty of supporting the next generation of nurses alone to optimize their success: it called on its partners in clinical and teaching environments to further prepare candidates. . The OIIQ was thus able to observe a remarkably dynamic mobilization in the clinical and teaching nursing ecosystem.
The OIIQ fervently hopes that this recent experience of concerted efforts lays the foundations of a true Quebec transition program between graduation and the exercise of the independent profession, including the preparation of candidates for the nursing profession exam. . And this, in cohesion with the reflection on the future of this exam, currently in open discussion and in concert with the Office des professions du Québec.
The OIIQ would like to point out that it is applying the recommendations of the latest report of the Commissioner for Admission to Professions, particularly on the determination of the passing score. In addition, the OIIQ has agreed on the following elements: no mention of failure is made in the file of candidates who choose not to register or not to take the September 2023 exam to continue their preparation; the right to practice as a CEPI is maintained in the event of definitive failure or reaching the maximum time limit for passing the exam; the limit on the number of attempts allowed to pass the exam has been lifted; and the time allocated for taking the exam has been increased.
Finally, in front of all the citizens of Quebec and for their benefit, the OIIQ wishes to say loud and clear that its priorities are in line with the future of the nursing profession, the pivot of our health system, in all regions. The OIIQ is committed to continuing to collaborate with all stakeholders in order to provide Quebec with a maximum number of nurses who are well equipped and confident in their knowledge and skills, ready to respond to increasing complexity. health needs of the population. The OIIQ receives with gratitude and dedication the growing confidence placed in it by 83% of Quebecers, according to a Léger survey carried out for the OIIQ during the summer of 2023.
To the candidates and their entourage, we reiterate our confidence in our next generation of nurses! We work tirelessly to succeed in officially welcoming them into this stimulating profession full of possibilities. Quebec needs the expertise of the next generation of nurses!
