protests against service reform

The investigators of the judicial police, who embody the elite in criminal investigations, have been demonstrating for weeks. Tuesday, October 11 in the morning, they were in front of their regional headquarters in Paris to mobilize against the reform of their institution. “The judicial police, they are the envy of us all over Europe, they are recognized, they are efficient. Here, we are breaking a tool that works very well”regrets Yann Bastière, of the national investigation delegation of theSGP Police-Force Ouvrière unit.

The judicial police directorates are currently divided into seven interregional zones. The reform wishes to divide them into departments. They would be placed under the authority of the prefect and the departmental director of the national police. The services would all be grouped together. The prosecutors, who call on the judicial police to carry out investigations, do not understand this reform. “What we fear is a loss of efficiency of the judicial police”worries Frédéric Fèvre, president of the National Conference of Attorneys General.
