On average, the property tax increases by 4.7% in the 200 largest cities in France. Locally, this increase is sometimes stronger, as in Mantes-la-Jolie, in the Yvelines.
In Mantes-la-Jolie (Yvelines), the owners are angry. Indeed, in this municipality, the property tax increases by 22.2%. “It’s scandalous, we don’t understand”, assures a woman. The mayor of the town of more than 40,000 inhabitants puts the blame on the intercommunality. “There is an increase, but which corresponds exclusively to the vote for inter-municipal taxation and not municipal”argues Raphaël Cognet, various right-wing mayor of Mantes-la-Jolie.
In the 200 largest cities in France, property tax has increased by an average of 4.7%. In Poissy (Yvelines), it increased by 23.9%. This increase is 16.3% in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) and 12.6% in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin). These increases are partly due to inflation, but also to local political choices. “With the abolition of the housing tax (…) many communities of municipalities have anticipated”explains Christophe Demerson, president of the national union of property owners.
