Curious, we like to poke around at each end of the spectrum of properties displayed on the Centris platform, which groups together listings pushed by brokers. So, which one is the most expensive? The least expensive? Or which chalet is the most expensive? Here are the results as they were displayed this week.
The queen of the expensive ones
1/5
The most expensive properties on the market are usually found in Ville-Marie (Westmount, Golden Square Mile) or near Mont-Tremblant. It is in this last sector that the residence that sends prices to Mars is nestled, with a location worthy of a fairy tale, on the edge of a cliff and Lake Tremblant, surrounded by a 52-acre wooded area. It has a gym, spa, high-end kitchen… but no pool, which may be surprising in this market segment. With classic architecture and a concrete heart set with stone, it sports remarkable finishes, combining granite and oak.

It’s no secret that sales through repossession or foreclosures can bring in rock-bottom prices. That’s the case here, with this mobile home in Lebel-sur-Quévillon. Dating back to the 1970s, it offers two bedrooms and a bathroom, all on 817 sq. ft.2. No other details are provided, but the photos speak for themselves. Despite its tiny price of $20,000, the lowest in the category of homes for sale, you will have to budget for extras for renovations. Lots of renovations.

A semi-abandoned house in a remote corner? An unsanitary duplex? Well no, the property for sale displayed for the longest time on the sales platform is rather an income condo located at 5e floor of the luxurious Fairmont Mont-Tremblant, which offers access to the hotel services and the ski slopes. It is not very big (530 sq. ft.2with only one bedroom) and a bit beige. The website does not specify how long the ad has been active.

My dear chalet

The cottage category never fails to surprise us. Right now, the most expensive one for sale on Centris, close to $9 million, is nestled in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. It is a set of four log cabins, built between 1930 and 2001. The description sheet specifies that it is the “Topping Retreat,” acquired by a very wealthy New York family, having served as a set for period films and home to a 90-foot waterfall depicted on a Canadian commemorative note. It is presented as “a rare opportunity to own an important part of Canadian history.”

For the big, big ones parties family

After going through 3,932 listings one by one, two of them, tied, have the largest number of bedrooms. To accommodate their family orgies, buyers will be able to benefit from not 10, nor 20, but 23 lodges to sleep (or otherwise) their guests. The most impressive of the two properties, located in Saint-Léonard, offers a good standing and a swimming pool for guests. The other, located in Saint-Hyacinthe, has the same number of rooms (36, including 23 bedrooms) and dates from the same period (mid-1960s), but has a different style (last photo)… and a different price ($895,000 + taxes).
