Prohibition of flavors for vaping: a majority of Quebecers in favor of this law

The end of fruit and mint flavors in electronic cigarettes is approved by a majority of Quebecers, a few weeks after the filing of a draft Quebec regulation.

According to a survey by Léger, 67% of respondents support this motion tabled last April.

“These results should motivate the Government of Quebec to proceed quickly with the final publication of this regulation,” believes Flory Doucas, co-director and spokesperson for the Quebec Coalition for Tobacco Control, which commissioned this survey.

Indeed, the Quebec regulations have not yet been adopted and with the parliamentary break, Ms. Doucas fears that this measure will not be in force for the start of the school year.

“The final passage of the draft regulations should be a priority if the government is serious about protecting young people from the harms of addiction to nicotine and other toxic substances in vaping,” she said.

According to the coalition, there are more than 100,000 Quebecers aged 12 to 24 who vape today without having been smokers beforehand.

The vaping rate among this age category would also be 3.6 times higher than among those aged 25 and over.

The survey was conducted among 1,001 Quebec adults between June 30 and July 4, 2023.
