One of the flagship measures of the Water plan unveiled on Thursday March 30 by Emmanuel Macron plans to introduce progressive pricing. Thus, the higher the water consumption, the higher the bill will be.
Increasingly scarce water. It will therefore be much more expensive for large consumers. Conversely, those who save it will see their bill go down. Progressive pricing to use less water: one of the measures desired Thursday, March 30 by Emmanuel Macron. It has already been in place for ten years in the Dunkirk conurbation. Armanda Dupont has always been careful with water, but in recent years she has used even less of it. It used 34 cubic meters of water per year just two years ago, compared to 22 today.
Rates that vary according to consumption
Essential water: it therefore benefits from the lowest price, 1.28 euros. Those who consume between 80 and 200 cubic meters pay 2.30 euros, but beyond that, it’s 3.10 euros per litre. Water considered as comfort. Consequence: the consumption of the 240,000 inhabitants has dropped. “We have reduced consumption per household by around fifteen cubic meters”, explains Bertrand Ringot, the mayor of Gravelines (North). Today, around fifteen municipalities have set up this system, such as Bordeaux, Nice and Montpellier. It could be extended to all of France.
