“Probably the strongest blow ever struck against Hezbollah since its creation,” said a journalist from L’Orient-Le Jour.

“We must be aware that there are thousands of mini-explosions that have taken place everywhere, in civilian areas, in restaurants, in houses, in cars,” explained Anthony Samrani on France Inter on Thursday.

“This is probably the strongest blow ever struck against Hezbollah since its creation”said journalist Anthony Samrani, editor-in-chief of the French-language Lebanese daily L’Orient-Le Jour, on France Inter on Thursday, September 19.

“It’s something that no one could imagine”he assured, stressing the unprecedented nature of the attacks which transformed into explosives beepers and walkie-talkies used by members of Hezbollah, causing around thirty deaths and thousands of injuries across Lebanon. “Beyond the technological prowess, beyond the fact that Israel has weakened Hezbollah perhaps as never before, he continuedit brings back traumas” in the Lebanese population. “We must be aware that there are thousands of mini-explosions that have taken place everywhere, in civilian areas, in restaurants, in houses, in cars,” he explained.

The Iran-backed Islamist movement Hezbollah has blamed Israel for the blasts, while experts and some Israeli media outlets say the type of attack is similar to those that Israel’s Mossad intelligence service might imagine. “Somewhere, Israel now thinks that everything is permitted on Lebanese soil,” Anthony Samrani worries.
