Probable sewage leaks in Isère after a breakage at the Aquapole wastewater treatment plant

Since this weekend, the Aquapole wastewater treatment plant, located on the banks of the Isère between Saint-Egrève and Voreppe has probably discharged sewage into the river. The reason comes from a breakage that occurred at the end of the week. This Friday, October 14, employees noticed malfunctions in the treatment of this water and began to look for the causes. On Sunday morning, they finally spotted the part in question, worn and which had ended up breaking.

No immediate solution

Problem: this part is located 6m deep, which makes its replacement complicated, especially since it is a welded part, and above all made to measure, which therefore cannot be replaced immediately. The solution should not arrive for several days or even a week, at best. As a result, waste water had to flow into the Isère. “We manage to maintain the filtering of effluents by retaining “large” waste such as wipes, grease, plastics, etc.,”, tempers the Metropolis of Grenoble in a press release. But “it is likely that part of the effluent (brown water) will be discharged into the Isère”.

Pumping operations have been put in place to limit this leak. The Métropole assures that pollution monitoring will be done. In the immediate future, this flow in the Isère does not seem to have caused, according to her, the death of the fish which inhabit the river. In the meantime, it is recommended toavoid contact with the water of the Isère downstream of Saint-Egrève.
