Since the start of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, some American universities have become the center of pro-Palestinian demonstrations. In New York, at Columbia University, the demonstrators were dislodged on Monday April 22 by the police.
For several days, dozens of tents have been set up on the large esplanade of Columbia University, in New York (United States). They were planted by students who denounce the war waged by Israel in Gaza. But the site was the subject of an intervention by riot police who arrested, on Monday April 22, 2024, some of the pro-Palestinian students.
Other universities involved
Columbia follows in the footsteps of other universities at Harvard and Pennsylvania, whose two presidents, under pressure from Congress, had to resign a few weeks ago for not having condemned this pro-Palestinian movement. The police monitor demonstrators very closely and regularly make arrests.
