Prime Minister François Legault denounced Tuesday the pro-Palestine demonstration which took place in Montreal, the day after the Hamas attack in Israel. “It’s shameful, it’s unacceptable,” said Mr. Legault.
Several hundred people gathered in the city center of the metropolis to show their support for the Palestinian people on Sunday.
“It’s shameful, it’s unacceptable and I am really very disappointed to see these people who allow themselves to take actions like that in such tragic, sad moments,” declared the Prime Minister on the sidelines of the inauguration of a new school in Montreal, Tuesday.
“It shocked me,” he added in the press scrum. To the demonstrators who said that they were there to show their support for the Palestinian people, without supporting Hamas, François Legault retorted that “there is nothing that can justify what happened. These are terrorist acts.”
He announced that the flag of the National Assembly will be flown at half-mast to honor the victims of the Hamas attack, including Alexandre Look, a young Montrealer who was visiting Israel. The 33-year-old man was participating in a music festival where 260 festival-goers lost their lives.
“There is nothing, absolutely nothing, that can justify Hamas terrorists attacking civilians. These are horrible gestures and I want to tell the entire Jewish population of Montreal, there in Israel, everywhere in the world, that the Quebec nation is at your side,” declared François Legault.
