Private plane passenger dies after severe turbulence

A passenger on board a private plane was killed Friday when the aircraft experienced severe turbulence.

The plane was carrying five people, two crew members, as well as three passengers, one of whom died.

The business jet, a Bombardier Challenger 300, had departed from Keene, New Hampshire, and was attempting to reach Leesburg, Virginia, but was forced to land at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut .

An investigation has been opened by the National Transportation Safety Board, which wants to shed light on the tragedy. The cockpit voice and data recorders were seized.

The agency said a preliminary report would be available in two to three weeks.

A Federal Aviation Administration database showed the plane belonged to Conexon, a Kansas City, Mo.-based company that provides fiber-optic internet to rural areas.

The company declined to comment on Saturday.
