It was through a video message broadcast on social networks that the announcement was made. Princess Kate revealed on Friday March 22 that she had cancer and had started treatment. “preventive chemotherapy”. Here is the full message posted online by Kensington Palace:
“I wanted to personally thank you for all the wonderful messages of support and understanding while I recover from surgery. These last two months have been incredibly difficult for our entire family, but I have had a fantastic medical team who took great care of me, for which I am very grateful.
In January I had major abdominal surgery in London. At the time, it was thought that I did not have cancer. The operation is a success. However, tests after the operation revealed that cancer had been present. So my medical team advised me to undergo preventative chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of this treatment.
This was of course a huge shock, and William and I did everything we could to absorb it and deal with it privately, for the well-being of our young family. As you can imagine, it took us a while. It took me a while to recover from a major operation in order to begin treatment.
“But most importantly, it took us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis, in a way that was appropriate for them, to reassure them that I will get through this.”

Like I told them, I’m fine. I gain strength every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal in my head, my body and my morale. Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance, as is the love and kindness shown to me by so many of you, which means a lot to both of us.
We hope you understand that as a family we now need time and respect for our space and privacy while I finish my treatment. My work has always brought me deep joy and I look forward to returning to it when I am able. But for now, I need to focus on fully healing.
I am also thinking at this time of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. To all who face this disease in any form, never lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”
