Prince Harry attacks (again) a press group for defamation, a story of big money…

The youngest son of Prince Charles does not let himself be done! While he is currently in the midst of negotiations with the Crown to find out how to ensure his police protection if he were to return to his country of origin to see his family, Prince Harry did not appreciate one of the British newspaper papers Mail on Sunday. He claimed in fact that he had tried to keep the secrecy of these discussions carried out for several months.

This Thursday, he therefore decided to initiate legal proceedings for defamation against the important press group Associated Newspapers. Owners of the provocative tabloid DailyMail and therefore of its Sunday version, they are indeed responsible for publishing the problematic article. Information confirmed by the prince’s spokesperson, without further details.

In this paper, the British journalists explained that the husband of Meghan Markle would have preferred that the information around a possible police protection remain secret. Indeed, the debate is lively in the United Kingdom: who should protect the grandson of the Queen, now that he has left the country and the royal family?

The crown has indeed refused to support his return, arguing that his desire to leave the royal family in 2019 had mechanically deprived him of support at the expense of the taxpayer. While offering to pay from his own funds, he was denied this request by the Home Office who explained that a “police security device is not available on the basis of private funding“.

It is a disappointment for the Duke of Sussex who is expected at the beginning of the summer for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. It would be his third return to the country since his sensational departure in 2019. Indeed, he had attended the funeral of his grandfather, Prince Philip, last April. He then returned for a ceremony in tribute to his mother, Diana, two express stays of only a few days.

His wife, actress Meghan Markle, and his two children (Archie, 3 years old and Lilibet, 8 months) had not accompanied him and should not be on the trip this time again, except for a huge surprise. It must be said that relations between the couple and the rest of the family (in particular Prince William and his wife Kate) are still very cold, a consequence in particular of the various interviews given by the former actress and her husband in the United States.
