It’s a real blow for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Leaving to live in the United States, far from the British royal family, to build their own lives, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle continue to be talked about unwittingly. The decisions of Archie and Lilibet Diana’s parents have had an impact on the image of the Crown of England, but also on their popularity. The couple, exiled across the Atlantic, is less and less appreciated by the British people. This new Ipsos poll, unveiled this Thursday, April 7, attests to this. For Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, it’s simply a cold shower.
This new poll by Ispos ranks members of the British Royal Family from most popular to least popular. For this survey, 2055 British adults aged between 16 and 75 were interviewed. He reveals that the former actress and Prince William’s brother are at the bottom of the rankings. Meghan Markle scores 50% unfavorable versus 24% favorable. A substantial drop of 16% for the Duchess of Sussex compared to 2018, the year of her marriage to Prince Harry. Nevertheless, the fall is tougher for Kate Middleton’s brother-in-law. The poll reveals that he obtained 43% unfavorable marks against 30% favorable. More convincing figures for the prince this year, except that he lost 35% of his popularity compared to 2018.
The couple’s numerous absences from major events or even their shock interview with host Oprah Winfrey had a huge impact on their popularity. If their new life in California makes them happier today, they have become a little further away from the British people.
What about other members of the Crown?
If the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are in free fall in the hearts of the English, the Queen of England is at the top of the ranking. The monarch has 69% favorable and 13% unfavorable opinions. Those who follow the sovereign are not Charles and his wife Camilla, but Prince William and Kate Middleton. The Duke of Cambridge counts 64% of favorable opinions, when the Duchess has 60%.
