Prince Harry and Meghan Markle humiliated in the Netherlands, new blow for the couple

It’s a trip that is much talked about! While Meghan Markle has not returned once to the UK since her exile in the United States, the Duchess of Sussex took a plane to the Netherlands. Prince Harry and his wife decided to attend the Invictus Games. An important event for the Duke of Sussex, but also for the former actress. It was during these games that the couple made their romantic relationship official before getting married a few months later. But now, the former members of the Crown no longer seem to be able to benefit from the privileges they once had. As reported The Sun, Dutch King Willem-Alexander did not grant audiences to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not allowed to speak with the King of the Netherlands, nor to sleep in a room in the royal palace. Traditionally, the Dutch royal family gladly welcomes members of foreign royal families to their palace and even enjoys an interview with the monarch. However, as a spokesperson for Willem-Alexander reports, nothing will be put in place to highlight the presence of the couple. A rather humiliating situation for Prince Harry since he is the founder of these games.

Another hiccup during Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s trip: their safety. Protection officers for the parents of little Archie and Lilibet Diana could not be armed if they traveled to the Netherlands. Not long ago, the Duke of Sussex had lodged a complaint against the Home Office because he no longer enjoyed the same degree of personal protection as others in the Royal Family, during his visits. The couple can rest easy, they will benefit from full protection from the Dutch police during the Invictus Game.

An imminent return to the United Kingdom?

As Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee celebrations approach, the British people are wondering if Prince Harry and the former actress will be in attendance. Kate Middleton’s brother-in-law’s last trip dates back a year, in April 2021, for the funeral of his grandmother, Prince Philip. The return of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to English soil is highly anticipated.
