Prince Edward Island is looking to attract workers to its child care centres, announcing Monday that it is renewing its Steps to Success training program.
“The Steps to Success program will return this fall, providing financial assistance and experience to help Islanders pursue a rewarding career as an early childhood educator,” reads a statement from the province.
Funded by the Ministry of Manpower, Advanced Education and Population, the initiative provides candidates with training, as well as a travel allowance and related expenses, if applicable. A child care allowance is also available, and those who complete the program will obtain full-time employment in a licensed daycare in the province.
Over the past four years, Steps to Success has trained more than 100 people, thanks to an investment of 1.8 million.
“With our population growing, we recognize the pressing need to expand child care services across the province,” said Minister of Workforce, Advanced Learning and Population Jenn Redmond.
The deadline for submitting applications for the 2024-2025 year is August 9, 2024.
