The Slovenian suffered on the climb to the Col d’Eze against the victorious attack of his rival Simon Yates but, third in this last stage on Sunday, he ended up winning Paris-Nice.
Cycling is also a team sport. Without the help of his teammate Wout Van Aert, Primoz Roglic might have conceded the final victory in this Paris-Nice to Simon Yates. The Briton, already second overall before the start of this last stage on Sunday March 12, tried everything to destabilize the Slovenian in the ascent of the Col d’Eze.
Obviously not on a great day, the leader of the Jumbo-Visma was, fortunately for him, able to count on the support of Van Aert who hoisted him to the top of the final climb. On the finish line, Roglic finally conceded only a handful of seconds to the BikeExchange rider and won the first Paris-Nice of his career. With this prestigious stage victory, Yates obviously consolidates his second place overall, ahead of Daniel Martinez (Ineos Grenadier), weighed down by a mechanical problem and who could not take part in the final fight.
