“Never in my life, not even in my youth, did I take drugs.” Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin said she took a drug test to clear customs on Friday (August 19) after a video emerged showing her partying with friends; which led to charges of drug use.
The video, posted by various outlets and widely shared on social media, shows the 36-year-old Prime Minister dancing with a group of people. Some criticized Sanna Marin’s way of dancing, deeming this behavior unbecoming for a Prime Minister, while others felt that she had the right to be entertained at a private party.
Following these videos, rumors also emerged, accusing the Prime Minister of having consumed narcotics. “In order to dispel any suspicion, I took a drug test today”, Sanna Marin told reporters at her residence, adding that the results are expected within a week and will be released. She simply admitted to having drunk alcohol during this evening, and assured that she had not witnessed drug use by any of the participants.
Most critics pointed to the fact that she was then serving as Prime Minister, and wondered if she would have been able to make sound decisions in a sudden crisis. “My ability to function was good. I didn’t expect to have a meeting”retorted Sanna Marin, who has already been the target of criticism for parties organized in his residence.
