Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot and wounded on Wednesday May 15. Behind the barrier where the elected official was standing shortly before these shots, his assailant was controlled by the police. Transported by helicopter, Robert Fico arrived on a stretcher to be treated. He is between life and death. Four bullets reportedly hit him in the stomach. 1h30 earlier, the Slovak Prime Minister had arrived on the scene very relaxed, to chair a meeting of his government and hold a press conference. It was at the exit that a man drew a gun and shot him. The Prime Minister approached the crowd to greet them.
Robert Fico, 59, is a pro-Russian populist leader. He ended his country’s military aid to Ukraine. He is also known for his anti-migrant positions. His alleged attacker has been identified. He is a Slovak writer who regularly wrote political columns in which he attacked Robert Fico. As of Wednesday evening, his exact motivations are not yet known.
