Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis targeted by a complaint from relatives of victims

The complaint targets 17 people, including former and current members of the government, as legislative elections are held in the country on Sunday.

Families of victims of the rail accident which killed 57 people on February 28 in Greece filed a complaint on Tuesday, May 16, against Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, announced the representative of the group bringing them together. “It’s an important day, more important than the elections [législatives] Sunday”, said before the court of Larissa Christos Konstantinidis, whose statements were retransmitted to the Larissanet site. His wife was killed in the train collision in Tempé, central Greece.

“It starts with the leader of the government, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and the ministers and former ministers” Transport, explained Christos Konstantinidis. The list published by the website includes 17 people, including officials from OSE, the public company in charge of the rail network, and Hellenic Train, the private company managing the rail transport of people.

Serious malfunctions were brought to light in the railways after this head-on collision between two trains, one of passengers, the other of goods. The delays in the modernization of security systems have been pointed out after this tragedy which has raised a wave of anger and major demonstrations throughout Greece. The Prime Minister, who faces legislative elections on Sunday, first mentioned a “tragic human error” before asking for forgiveness for the shortcomings and problems found in rail transport.
