End of speculation. Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne ruled out, on Tuesday, November 21, being the head of the majority list in the European elections in June 2024, thus brushing aside rumors about her possible candidacy.

“It’s not my project, but I have no doubt that we will have a good head of list to carry out projects in which, as you will have understood, we very much believe”declared the head of government in an interview with the readers of Latest news from Alsace on the sidelines of a trip to Strasbourg.

An announcement “when the time comes”

The rumor of Elisabeth Borne’s candidacy goes hand in hand with that of a government reshuffle which resurfaces after many weeks of speculation in the spring and finally the confirmation of the head of government in July.

Several names are also circulating to lead the majority list: Stéphane Séjourné, who heads the presidential Renaissance party and who is already an MEP, Thierry Breton, European Commissioner, or Laurence Boone, Secretary of State for Europe.

At the beginning of the month, Elisabeth Borne indicated that the designation of the one who will lead the list of majority parties would take place “When the time comes”.
