Affected by inflation, the prices of consumer products soar in supermarkets. New trade negotiations should take place soon.

Nearly two thirds of foodstuffs have increased according to the firm NielsenIQ. Some categories are more impacted. Over a year, pasta saw a rise in prices, by nearly 42%. For coffee, prices also rose (+12%). Inflation has a strong impact on these entry-level products because the raw materials that are soaring represent the major component of their prices.

The situation has worsened for farmers. Animal feed represents 2/3 of the cost of production. For cereals, the price of fertilizers has soared and has been multiplied by 4. The National Federation of Farmers’ Unions (FNSEA), considers that the situation is a real “time bomb”. The government has called for the reopening of trade negotiations. A price increase of 8 to 10% is demanded by manufacturers, farmers and distributors.
