In one year, the price of an apartment has increased by 4% in La Rochelle, in Charente-Maritime. The price of a house is up 1%.

In summer as in winter, life is good in La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime). On the port, residents praise the merits of their city. This attractiveness keeps property prices at high levels. A family bought a 110 square meter house for 420,000 euros, not including the work amounting to 40,000 euros. These Lyonnais did not fall in love, but jumped at this opportunity, for fear of seeing prices rise. “We quickly realized that the prices were approximately the same as at Lyon, Bordeaux or Nantes”says Jérôme Briant, new owner of a house.

High demand from high-capital buyers

These prices are not accessible to everyone. “If interest rates go back down, if market prices go back down, (…) we will wait to see if there are possibilities that open up”, says Pauline Turgis, tenant, looking for a house. The price of an apartment has increased by 4% in one year and that of a house by 1%. According to a real estate agent, this is due to high demand from high-equity buyers.
