(Miami) Colombian presidential candidate Rodolfo Hernandez announced on Thursday the cancellation of all his public appearances, saying he feared for “his life” ten days before the second round against his opponent Gustavo Petro.

“For my safety and to ensure the possibility of a democratic election on June 19, I have made the decision to cancel all my public appearances from now until the election,” the independent and unclassifiable man tweeted. after a press conference in Miami, in the southeastern United States.
“Right now I am certain that my life is in danger,” added Mr. Hernandez, who came to Florida to meet members of the Colombian community.
The 77-year-old candidate notably denounced an orchestrated campaign against him.
“They planned to destroy us through false testimony and false witnesses,” he claimed, adding that “this murder will not be done with lead, but with a knife.”
The former mayor of Bucaramanga created a surprise by qualifying for the second round of the presidential election after a campaign focused on the fight against corruption.
In Florida, approximately 100,000 Colombian citizens can vote for the second round.
