Presidential 2024 | A first Republican debate on August 23

(Washington) Republican candidates for the 2024 U.S. presidential election will face off in a first debate on Aug. 23 in Wisconsin, the party announced Friday.

Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Tim Scott… A growing field of candidates seeks to block the path of former President Donald Trump.

To be able to participate in the debates, they must meet a series of criteria (polls, fundraisers, etc.) and all must commit to supporting the Republican candidate invested by the party.

If there are too many candidates, a second debate could be organized on August 24, said party leader Ronna McDaniel.

The winner of these primaries will face the candidate chosen by the Democratic Party in November 2024 – most likely President Joe Biden.

The choice of Milwaukee, the largest city in Wisconsin, to organize this debate owes nothing to chance: this state in the Great Lakes region is hotly contested between Republicans and Democrats in each election. It had been won by a hair’s breadth by the Democratic leader in 2020.
