The votes of the primary popular ends Sunday, January 30 at 5 p.m. Christiane Taubira is the favorite, for the moment none of the other candidates on the left want to recognize this open vote. The journalist Katherine Itching explains to us the stakes of this unprecedented but also criticized election.

They are seven on the starting line, more or less known, and among the main candidates, three were registered against their will, and they made it known from the start. “Fight among yourselves, leave me alone”, launched Jean-Luc Mélenchon. “When it’s no, it’s no”, said Yannick Jadot. Christiane Taubira favorite part and for some this primary was even cut for her, she promised to comply with the results.

Christiane Taubira refused to say if she would support Jean-Luc Mélenchon, for example, if he came first. 466,895 people registered for an online vote, at the midday they were already more than 310,000 to have voted. The process is unprecedented in France, voters assign a score, according to several criteria, to each candidate, and the best-scored will be designated. Not sure that this primary is enough to clarify the balance of power on the left.
