The President of Niger, Mohammed Bazoum, overthrown by a coup d’état on July 26, has referred the matter to the UN Human Rights Council, franceinfo learned on Monday October 2 from the Nigerien president’s lawyers.

The head of state is currently detained at the presidential palace in Niamey by the junta behind the coup. Mohammed Bazoum grasps more precisely the “working group on arbitrary detention” and the “human rights committee” within the UN Human Rights Council.
Mohammed Bazoum’s lawyers also announce the filing of a “complaint with civil party constitution” for “attack and conspiracy against state authority” and “arbitrary arrests and kidnappings” before the Niamey High Court. “It is imperative that Mohammed Bazoum” and his family “be released”insist their lawyers.
